Downbeat Rosetta review, February 2007

There is a rambling, rootsy quality to much of bassist Stephan Crump's Rosetta (Papillon Sounds 9205; 51:11) 3 1/2 stars, reminiscent of the jazz-bluegrass hybrid created by Tony Rice and David Grisman. With Liberty Ellman on acoustic guitar and Jamie Fox on electric guitar, Crump lets his imagination roam from the timeless ice floes of the Arctic ("Atanarjuat") to the World Trade Center on 9/11. This is an extremely well-matched string trio, with everyone contributing equally to the melodic development of the the compositions, and the rhythm function being handed around seamlessly.
